The only downside to this computer is the fact that it only supports 24 holes. This is a good thing, especially since using the reset button to zero the computer can be a hassle. The battery is user changeable so you do not have to buy a new Cateye when the battery dies. The simple screen also makes it easy to see in the daylight even if it is raining. This is an important feature for mountain bikers that ride in wet conditions a lot. I have tested under water and it still works flawlessly. The Cat Eye Velo 9 is usable in the rain or even under water. I always end up falling asleep in the saddle after a lot of climbs and lose track of what lap I am on. Just like with any computer, when using multiple turns/laps you need to be careful to watch the distance you travel per lap. The simplicity of the display makes the unit a pleasure to use, since you just need to look at it a few to see what is going on: average speed, up coming turn, and so on. The Velo 9 has a lot of functions but the display is very simple and easy to read. Being able to compare speeds is a good way to keep the pace up and stay in the right gears. It is also useful to travel with a group of cyclists who all have computers. The screen is also nice and large making seeing the digits easy even from the side. This number is easy to read from far behind and it can be seen from the side. The average speed is calculated based on the distance traveled along with the time elapsed. I accomplish this by using the odometer feature and holding the button down as I pedal. I race against a car and try to keep up with it while maintaining a 45-50 km/h average. I use this when competing in short time trials such as with our local 200 person Gran Fondo. I never understand how it happens but I will say the computer lives up to its name, “Velo”, which means bicycle. The speed sensor mounts to the seat tube quick release as well making installation quick and easy.Ī few times I have forgotten to take the computer off my bike and it got trashed. It has an easy set-up and the mount fits right on top of the fork without an adapter. This is an excellent computer for the budget minded racer who wants a computer that can keep up with their training and racing. I have used this computer so many times I hardly remember using any other. Battery life: approx 3 years (1hr use per day, may vary depending on environment.).Now featuring calorie consumption and a carbon offset measurement to help you track how much of a difference you are making. Along with current, average, and max speed measurement, track your trip distance, elapsed time, and odometer.
